Classic Ottawa Scenery
There is a slideshow to all the photos at the bottom of the post.
It was sooo dry here in the south that I decided to drive up north to paddle in Canada. They had been getting lots of rain and even as recently as a couple weeks ago Buseater was in so we knew we would find something good to paddle. Even at the in between levels that we were looking at on the Ottawa there were plenty of smaller play spots to test on. So it was a good start for checking out the Biscuit protos.
Setting up the new boats
The crew was:
Me: (43) Once I knew how to playboat, a little, but now I am an off the couch playboater.
Yonton: (young punk) He is a fantastic playboater who has made the finals in several world championships, but also a little off the couch.
Justin: (older than Yonton) Justin is more of a river runner but also a good playboater.
Beaz: (old as dirt):) Beaz is my old paddling buddy from travels in the past. His claim to playboating fame is '97 Worlds in an Open Canoe and poster boy for Perception in a Super Sport.
Marlow: (young punk) Marlow, well you all know Marlow. He is one of the top wave paddlers in the world.
CJs House Along the River
We were lucky enough to be able to stay at Camp CJ (Cindy Jamison's) place along the Ottawa river. Its easy paddling distance to the main two runs and super close to Garburator and McCoys. It was perfect. Thanks CJ.

Afer driving all day we did stop off at the Black River to paddle at Hole Brothers at a horrible level. Not sure why we did that but hey a day on the water is better than a... We had the whole crew from Hudson River Rafting out in the boats. The wave was slow and not very dynamic but folks were able to do some stuff and it did turn out to be a good testing of how the boat did on smaller, slower features. It showed me that I need to work on the speed a touch more and probably make the ends a bit more slicey but that was about as much info as I could get out of this spot at this level.
Yonton working the blunt
Once we got to the Ottawa the levels weren't perfect but there were several smaller spots that were really fun and our first day on the river was a really fun evening paddle as a storm rolled in over the plains. There was a slow wave hole that was perfect for mellow surfing, spins, and blunts. And a very good little play hole that were getting most hole moves to work. It was here that we really figured out that this thing is very good in a hole. Its super well balanced and likes to be vertical. It was a little shallow for big loops but there were lots of good loops and McNasty type things going on.
Under cool stormy skies
Then we noticed just on the other side of the island from the smaller play hole there was a bigger faster spot that was giving up some blunts and good fast cartwheels.
The sun came out the next day

After the first couple of days testing on the Ottawa we all felt pretty solidly that this thing was great in the hole. We were able to test it in several different types of holes and actually found a couple waves that were a little bigger as well. And our thoughts at the Black were confirmed on the slower waves. "I would like it to be a little faster on smaller slower stuff." What was surprising though was how well it took off on the bigger stuff. On the two bigger waves that we were able to paddle on the Ottawa the Biscuit started to speed up, and it got loose as hell.

Here is the slideshow to all the photos. There are somewhere around 40 shots of our time on the Ottawa testing the Biscuits. If you have anything you would like to see let me know. Or if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Is it possible to flat water cartwheel it?
I know this sounds lame!!
cheers Tom
Hey Tom
Yep it is very well balance and very flat water able. Yonton is in the photos throwing the medium around with ease.
Shane
How is the seat attached, is it a 1 bolt system or have you moved to 2 bolts
You got back to the spin disc solution - why is that? Tried Ronin 49 and would like to upgrade my scooter to something as fast as ronin and as easy to manouvre as a scooter. We've got water - big and small.
Henri
Hey Ya'll
Tom I forgot the photos of Yonton aren't up yet, but the boat is very easy to throw in flatwater.
Laurie
The seat is attached with one bolt. Lots of adjustment, and the whole seat adjustment system has been updated in the last few years.
Henri
The disk on this boat is less pronounced than other boats I have done. It gives me great looseness on faster waves, while larger surface gives greater looseness on slower water.

Hey Shane, Is there gonna be some Biscuit Protos to try out at Gauley Fest? Thanks, Greg
There are going to be a few Biscuits to check out at the festival but I don't know if there will be any to paddle.

Hey You will be good to go in a medium Biscuit. It will fit your size perfectly. Retail they are $1049. We have a few places up there you can check on our webpage dealer list but one of our biggest dealers is Zoar Outdoors.

Hey tom
is it possible to use this boat as a river runner as well
thanks zoe
Zoe
This boat isn't specifically designed to be a river runner but it does fine on water that you are comfortable on. There is lots of volume packed into a small area so it stays on the surface well. But fast paddling downriver, it is not.

Shane
Nice job - looks like a sweet ride?
The spec states 66 gal. for the large. Will that float a 225lbs-er?
Cheers - Spence
Hey Spence
You should be in there.
I am 200 and feeling like there is plenty of volume for bigger folks.
Shane
How do,
Am 5'10" 205 lbs, size 9 feet will i get in the medium?
When you be shipping to the UK?
Thanks,
Yea you will fit. I am 6' 200lbs and size 10 feet and I fit fine. Being at the top end of the weight it makes for very easy fun cartwheels and the hull is still loose and fun.
System X will be getting one of our first shipments so hopefully you will have Biscuits in the UK in March.
Shane
Cheers Shane, just arriving around my 41st birthday as well! LOL
Shane,
I'm about 6ft 2in, pushing about 195lbs. Comfort in length and foot space is key b/c I've got size 12 dogs. But I'm worried the large will have too much volume for me, and, of course, the next concern is weather or not the medium will be too short. Any thoughts?

I think you will fit in the 55. It really is just a matter of trying if you can. I like the 65 as much as the 55 at my size. 6'1" 200lbs. I do only have size 10.5 but I do have a couple folks your size saying it works well for them and is comfy. But give it a try
Shane
Hi Shane,
What have you done to the Buscuit to make it roll better than the Ronin 59? I'm 5'9 200 LBS with size 11.5 dogs. I also have a cr250 that rolls like a dream but rolling the Ronin is shakey at best. How's the Biscuit designed to help with the roll?
The Biscuits are rounder on the sidewalls and the knees are tucked in a bit and much rounder. This gives you a rounder shape to roll especially through the hardest finishing part of the roll.
I think you will be psyched in the Biscuit 55. You should also try the 65 to see if you like it better. The bigger volume will give you bigger loops and with volume you always get more confident river running.
Cheers

Hello Shane I'm 5'6'' and 147,4 pounds with leg size 9. What size will be perfect for me? 45?
Thank you!
Hey Uros I think you will be great in the 45. You could paddle the 55 but I think the 45 will be perfect.
Shane
Shane,
I posted to you back when the Ronin was coming out asking about a boat for the tall lanky guy. Basically the 6-6'4 200lb person with big feet. The Ronin did not stand a chance for us.
Now the Biscuit. Yes you made a bigger size but you still left out the 200lb person. 55 too small, 65 too big.
Maybe I am in an odd place on this earth, but there are a lot of 6+ft 200lb people that boat in our area.
Do you have any suggestions becuase I am sure the Biscuit could be a good boat.
Hey Michael
Just so you know I am exactly your size.
6' 1" and 200lbs. The 65 is my boat. It fits me great it is big and comfy in the feet and I can still throw it around and get big loops. I am not sure why you feel like its too big because I love it. I made the 65 to work well for me. I hope you work it out.
Don't forget to move the seat around. If you are having a hard time getting the bow down move the seat forward. It will really help you get over the front of the boat and vice versa if its the stern.
Good luck
and
Cheers
Shane
Dear Shane, I got a biscuit 65 but I can not find a hole big enough for it. The hole that I used to use is now too small. Please advise.
Well Sir you are just going to have to find a bigger hole. The Biscuit she tends to gobble them up and use up all thats left of a hole. There are no bounds to the Biscuits willingness to take'em on.
She is a big boat for bigger folks.
Hope its working for you.
Cheers
Shane
